Midland Cogeneration Venture Selects SoftSmiths
Houston, TX. – December 9, 2009 –
SoftSmiths, Inc., a leading energy software solutions
and services company, today announced that Midland
Cogeneration Venture (MCV) will use the SoftSmiths
Market-MISO application to support dispatch operations
in the Midwest ISO (MISO). MCV is one of the largest gas
fired cogeneration projects in the United States. The
facility is capable of producing up to 1,560 megawatts
of electricity.
The SoftSmiths Markets application suite
delivers the functionality for bids/offers, scheduling,
and settlement activities to enable ISO market
participants to submit plans, offer generation, schedule
energy, and manage settlements.
SoftSmiths’ solution interfaces with
both MISO and MCV’s internal systems to receive dispatch
instructions by using SoftSmiths e-Link Application
Programming Interface (API).
MCV’s electrical capacity represents
approximately 10% of the power consumption for
Michigan’s lower peninsula. The majority of MCV’s
generation capacity is sold under a long term power
purchase agreement with Consumers Energy Company
(Consumers PPA), Michigan’s second largest electric and
gas regulated utility that provides electric service to
1.8 million customers. Additionally, MCV sells steam and
electricity to The Dow Chemical Company and steam to Dow
Corning Corporation.
