SoftSmiths completes SoftSmiths Markets SPP for EIS, and prepares for Texas Nodal Market functionality changes to its ERCOT platform

Houston, TX. – June 1, 2005 –  SoftSmiths, Inc announced today it has completed its SoftSmiths Markets-SPP application based on the most recently published specifications from the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) for its planned Energy Imbalance Market (EIS). SoftSmiths Market-SPP delivers complete functionality, based on its industry leading architecture, for transmission customers to submit plans, offer generation, schedule energy, receive dispatch notifications, and settle transactions.

SPP’s Energy Imbalance Market is planned to start on May 1, 2006. SoftSmiths has been working with market participants on how to streamline their operations and handle EIS transactions from scheduling to settlement, by demonstrating SoftSmiths Market-SPP capabilities. Its unmatched system flexibility will allow customers to smoothly navigate SPP changes, including the planned phases 2 and 3. SoftSmiths Markets-SPP suite includes a Web Listener to receive messages, such as dispatch notifications, and notify users. To support the scheduling communication function, SoftSmiths offers its fully NERC-compliant E-Tag capability as well.

SoftSmiths also continues to monitor the plans of the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to implement an Enhanced Hybrid Day-Ahead Market and Nodal Market. SoftSmiths Markets’ existing application framework will facilitate the adaptation and expansion required to provide an ERCOT solution that offers complete functionality for QSE’s after the market changes have been implemented.

For example, to support ERCOT’s change to Locational Marginal Pricing, SoftSmiths’ e LMP will allow customers to collect and monitor LMP values published by ERCOT, display these values in graphical and tabular formats, and analyze the LMP data. By retaining historical LMP data in a local repository, e-LMP facilitates trend analysis, and provides a detailed history of changes to LMP values during the day-ahead, real-time, and settlement phases.
