Position Title: Senior Database Engineer
Job Description
SoftSmiths, a leading provider of enterprise-wide
software solutions for the energy industry, seeks
a detail-oriented, enthusiastic, energetic team player
to serve as a Senior Database Engineer, responsible
for analyzing, developing, and maintaining database
applications. Your duties will include interpreting
application requirements, designing and implementing
database applications to meet those requirements,
delivering the applications to our deployment team,
and providing ongoing enhancement, maintenance, and
support of the applications. You will be expected
to be able to work both independently and as a team
member with critical-path responsibilities.
The successful candidate must have 5 years direct
experience in Oracle database application development,
with a strong background in PL/SQL and Oracle replication
technologies. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
or Technical Engineering, and proven experience developing
and deploying business applications are required.
Experience developing power/gas trading, scheduling/ISO,
and/or risk management software is a big plus.
Key Skills
Prior experience developing,
deploying, and maintaining n-tier applications
utilizing the technologies mentioned below is a
key. The successful candidate will have experience
with the following technologies and applications:
- Oracle
RDBMS (8i or higher), including development of
stored procedures using PL/SQL,
- Oracle replication technologies,
with multi-master replication experience a big plus,
- web
application development, including practical
work experience in Java, XML, JSP, Javascript,
HTML, and ActiveX controls,
- Source Code Management
(ClearCase is a big plus).
- Windows NT/2000/XP and
Sun Solaris operating environments,
- experience developing
trading, risk, and scheduling applications is
a big plus,
- C++ (especially Borland C++ Builder
experience) is a plus,
- Network communications, including
a thorough understanding of TCP/IP sockets, is
a plus,
- experience with Apache, TIBCO, On-line
Transaction Processing and Data Warehousing is
a plus.
